What gives Gin its flavour?
We all love to enjoy a delicious gin at home. However, most of us do not know how a gin is made. What are the secrets of gin flavouring? Craft Gin Club explains the process of making a gin. Gins are made from grain that is fermented and distilled. Aromatics and botanicals such as herbs, plants and spices are later on added with water. All gins must contain juniper, which is the predominant flavour of gin. There must be at least 37.5% of pure alcohol in the total volume of liquid. Many different botanicals can be combined in different ways to give each gin a unique flavour. Frequent botanicals are coriander, orange, lemon, angelica root, cardamom, ginger, almonds and nutmeg.
What flavours pair well with Gin?
Citrus
Citrus flavours add unique flavour to your drinks. They work great for gin cocktails since they help accentuate the subtle fruity tones usually found in gins. At Holy Lama Naturals, we love to make citrus gin flavouring syrups that can be easily mixed in cocktails or mocktails. We offer a variety of citrus Spice Drops® to be added to your gin flavouring must-haves list.
Florals & Herbs
Another beautiful option for gin flavouring is floral and herbal extracts. Herbs are the green part of plants used for flavouring dishes and are used in cuisine, medicine and aromatherapy. In cuisine, they are always used to flavour dishes but never as the main ingredient. Adding herbs to cocktails does not deliver great flavour and taste. There are multiple floral and herb extracts that can add an interesting and unique flavour to your gin cocktails. We have selected four natural Spice Drops® for your gin flavouring kit.
Spices
Spices add a bold and distinct flavour to your drinks. They are frequently used in main dishes, not just cocktails and drinks. Spices are not only good for the kitchen but also good for the body. Having a diverse spice cabinet will make your recipes stand out. It is important to keep in mind that not all spices improve the taste of your gin cocktails, which is why we have selected a few natural Spice Drops® for your gin flavouring sessions.
Four Elevated Cocktails with Gin Flavouring Recipes
- Turmeric & Ginger Gimlet – You may not automatically think of turmeric and gin when deciding what gin flavouring to use in your next cocktail, but trust us when we say that this Turmeric & Ginger Gimlet from Generation Distillers is a definite crowd pleaser!
- Raspberry Gin Fizz Cocktail – The Gin Fizz is a classic for good reason, but adding a seasonal twist to a tried and true classic is one of our favourite tricks. This version from Ren Behan adds Rose and Mint Spice Drops® as gin flavouring for a cocktail that just screams SUMMER!
- Rose & Cardamom Cocktail – You could take the time to make your own rose syrup like the lovely Blushing Doc did in her Rose & Cardamom gin cocktail, but who’s got the time? Instead, just whip up some simple syrup and add two drops of Rose Spice Drops® to create a gin flavouring syrup you’ll reach for again and again.
- Pineapple Collins – Ginstaburg shared her fruity twist on the classic gin collins recipe using our Lemongrass and Cardamom Gin, but you can make it at home with any gin, some pineapple juice, and just a couple drops of Spice Drops®.
